Native to the Iberian Peninsula, France and parts of Africa, the European Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus)is one of the most familiar mammals in the world, as it has been introduced to every continent worldwide excluding Antarctica. Rabbit skulls are particularly interesting as they have cranial fenestration, meaning parts of the skull aren't solid, they have an intricate web-like structure of fine bones instead. These structures absorb shock, so the rabbit can hop around without damaging their brain. On this specimen we have painted the windows of fenestration, along with the teeth, to accentuate the magical features of these special skulls.
